Η Τελική Ημέρα Πληροφόρησης RECOMMIT στην Κύπρο, που διοργανώθηκε από τη Θεολογική Σχολή της Εκκλησίας Κύπρου στις 29 Οκτωβρίου 2024, σηματοδότησε μια ολοκλήρωση των προσπαθειών προβολής του έργου στην περιοχή. Ως κύριος εταίρος, η Θεολογική Σχολή καλωσόρισε τους συμμετέχοντες να διερευνήσουν τις μετασχηματιστικές δυνατότητες της πρωτοβουλίας RECOMMIT. Η εκδήλωση τόνισε τα βασικά επιτεύγματα του έργου, συμπεριλαμβανομένης της εστίασής του στην κοινωνική επανένταξη με την προώθηση των αστικών αξιών για την υποστήριξη των κρατουμένων πριν από την απελευθέρωση στη μετάβασή τους πίσω στην κοινωνία. Οι συμμετέχοντες εισήχθησαν στην προσέγγιση συνδυασμένης μάθησης, η οποία συνδύαζε πρόσωπο με πρόσωπο συνεδρίες με βιωματική εκπαίδευση, προσφέροντας μια ολοκληρωμένη διαδρομή για ουσιαστική ανάπτυξη δεξιοτήτων.

The RECOMMIT Project, funded by Erasmus+, reached a significant milestone as it officially entered its implementation phase, marking the start of its impactful journey. The first session was held on June 18, 2024, at the Eleonas Thebes Women’s Prison in Greece, delivering remarkable outcomes. This innovative program combined traditional teaching methods with Virtual Reality (VR) technology to provide detainees with critical social skills, enhanced workplace communication abilities, and boosted self-confidence. By immersing participants in practical, skill-building experiences, the program aimed to support their successful reintegration into society.

On June 26th, the Open Days at the Penitentiary of Oradea provided a unique platform to showcase the RECOMMIT project to the press, marking a pivotal moment in the initiative’s journey. Members of the media were given an exclusive insight into the project’s objectives and its innovative approach to empowering detainees. A highlight of the day was the chance for attendees to experience the project’s Virtual Reality (VR) app firsthand, offering a glimpse into the cutting-edge tools being used to foster personal growth and skill development among participants.

Exciting progress has been made in the RECOMMIT Project with the completion of the RECOMMIT VR Experience Level Description and Configuration Handbook! This comprehensive guide serves as a blueprint for utilizing the VR platform to its fullest potential, empowering participants to develop critical skills for personal and social reintegration. The handbook introduces a series of immersive levels, beginning with the Orientation Level, designed to familiarize users with the VR environment and controls for a seamless experience. From there, participants delve into the Intro to Value Systems Level, exploring societal and personal values to build a strong foundation for meaningful communication and interaction.

The RECOMMIT Project reached another milestone with the successful Train the Trainer event held at UCLan Cyprus on January 9–10, 2024. Over two days, experts and participants engaged in insightful sessions aimed at enhancing skills and knowledge to support the project’s objectives.
On the first day, Dr. Vasiliki Christodoulou from UCLan Cyprus introduced the course and program theory, covering topics such as Civic Values and Personal Information. The day also featured an innovative session on Virtual Reality (VR) Training, led by Dr. Louis Nisiotis, highlighting cutting-edge learning techniques.

The RECOMMIT team celebrated a major milestone with the completion of the Train the Trainer manual, a robust and meticulously designed guide aimed at equipping individuals with the skills and knowledge needed to deliver impactful training sessions. This manual serves as a cornerstone resource, encompassing critical topics such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and detailed instructions on utilizing Virtual Reality (VR) equipment effectively. It also introduces the RECOMMIT Course, laying a strong foundation for fostering meaningful learning experiences. Packed with eight dynamic modules, the manual delves into essential workplace and personal development themes, including Introduction to Values, Listening Skills, Setting Interpersonal Boundaries, and Anger Management and Conflict Resolution, among others.

On Tuesday 16/05/2023 at 14:00-15:30, the fifth online meeting of all the partners for the European RECOMMIT project was successfully held. In particular, members of all the participating organizations in the programme were present (5 from the T.S.C.C, 1 from the University of Oradea in Romania, 3 from the University UCLan Cyprus, 1 from Epanodos - The Greek Centre for the Social Reintegration of Ex-offenders in Greece, 2 from Enoros Consulting LTD in Cyprus, and 1 from Associacio Social Andromines in Spain).
Fifth online meeting with the partners for the RECOMMIT project
The RECOMMIT project proudly unveiled its Modular Curriculum, a transformative training program designed to empower detainees as they embark on their journey toward positive reintegration. Among the standout modules is the Civic Values Module, which focuses on cultivating the principles of responsible citizenship. Through immersive activities and thought-provoking scenarios, participants were guided to explore the importance of civic values in building stronger, more connected communities. This module not only aimed to inspire individuals to make meaningful contributions to society but also served as a catalyst for fostering a brighter and more inclusive future.

The Erasmus+ Project RECOMMIT – woRksitE COMMunIcaTion – started in November 2022 and will end its lifecycle by October 2024. The consortium consists of 6 organizations, coming from 4 different European countries (Cyprus, Greece, Spain and Romania). The project coordinator is the Θεολογική Σχολή Εκκλησίας Κύπρου / Church of Cyprus Theology School with partners being Enoros Consulting Ltd, The University of Central Lancashire - UCLan, Επάνοδος ΝΠΙΔ για την Κοινωνική Επανένταξη Αποφυλακιζομένων, Universitatea din Oradea and Andròmines Associació.
In the meantime, the participating entities will work together towards achieving a common goal: Facilitate detainees’ wellbeing and social reintegration and achieve a long term and stable employability.
